UNEE welcomes new English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill

The new English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill has been warmly welcomed by Universities for North East England (UNEE).

Universities for North East England (UNEE) welcomes the new English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill which builds on the success of regions such as the North East and will further empower the North East and Tees Valley Combined Authorities to unlock potential and drive growth in their regions. 

As anchors of knowledge, innovation and opportunity, UNEE partners play a crucial role in driving economic growth as well as the educational, social and cultural success of the region.

Andy Long, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University and Chair of UNEE said, "This is a pivotal moment for the North East and working with the North East and Tees Valley Combined Authorities, UNEE will ensure that our universities can make an even greater contribution to shaping a more prosperous and resilient future for the North East of England".

Universities for North East England is the unified voice of higher education in North East England, advocating for evidence-based policy development, investment, and widening access and participation in higher education. It involves Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities.
