Dr. Kate Harland

Assistant Professor

Dr. Kate Harland is an experienced academic in marketing, tourism, and hospitality, with 14 years hospitality industry experience. Kate is currently the Programme Leader for Business and Marketing BA(Hons), and Module Leader on both the Customer Experience Marketing and Marketing Strategy and Communications modules . Kate’s PhD research explored high-tech, high-touch hospitality, focusing on the role of technology in the guest-host relationship. Kate’s current academic research is focused on the future of hospitality through technology innovation and implementation.

As a member of the Education and Training Committee for the Institute of Travel and Tourism, Kate actively works on the promotion of graduate employment opportunities within the tourism industry. Organising the annual Newcastle ITT Future You Roadshow is one of the highlights of the role which allows students to connect with businesses, bridging the gap between academia and industry. 

In addition to her academic roles, Kate is the Help to Grow Management Alumni Lead, and podcast host on the Why Small Business Matters Podcast. Kate also delivers the Vision, Mission, Values module on the Help to Grow Management programme, delivered to small and medium sized businesses across the UK.
